ENODA PRIME EXCHANGER

Dynamic Power Flow Technology for Low Voltage Networks

The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger is designed to help distribution network operators resolve challenges stemming from the energy transition and the growth of renewable energy.

HOW IT WORKS

The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger is built around a unique electromagnetic core and winding architecture. Sophisticated power electronics and control algorithms dynamically modulate the electromagnetic flux in the three-phase torus core.

This first-of-a-kind functionality gives the Prime Exchanger the ability to regulate the voltage on the LV network. The voltage is strictly maintained within network specifications, and its regulation is transparent to the consumer.

The ability to dynamically regulate the LV-network voltage unlocks functionality that fundamentally transforms the way the distribution network can operate:

By reducing or increasing the network voltage, the power consumption of individual distribution network nodes can be adjusted. This means a fleet of Enoda PRIME® Exchangers, distributed on a network and coordinated by Enoda ENSEMBLE™, can effectively change the power consumption profile of the distribution network.

ADDRESSING NETWORK CHALLENGES

Challenges faced by Network Operators, and how the Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can address these

  • The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger regulates the LV-network voltage per network operator instructions, which can prevent undesirable voltage shifts when distributed energy resources are generating large amounts of power.

  • The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can reduce harmonic signal flow bidirectionally.

  • A fleet of Enoda PRIME® Exchangers can stabilise the network over a wide range of operating conditions.

  • A fleet of Enoda PRIME® Exchangers can continuously monitor and manage local network status. If a condition develops that could cause a frequency violation, Enoda ENSEMBLE™ can coordinate the exchangers to pre-emptively mitigate the risk.

The Intelligent Asset Management protocol can increase network resilience to events that would normally cause power interruptions.

  • The depth of data that can be delivered by a fleet of Enoda PRIME® Exchangers provides the opportunity for unprecedented insight into network conditions and trends. Operators can more intelligently manage assets and maximise the value of infrastructure investment.

  • Enoda PRIME® Exchangers, coordinated by Enoda ENSEMBLE™, can provide localised grid-support services.

  • Enoda PRIME® Exchangers can help increase the capacity of grid infrastructure by enabling more efficient use of existing poles and wires. Phase balancing and reactive power management can increase power distribution efficiency. Active voltage regulation can increase the ability to absorb power generated on prosumer side without creating local disturbances.

  • Network operators need upgrades that benefit every possible aspect of the infrastructure.

    The Enoda PRIME® Exchanger can:

    • reduce the need for other power flow hardware.

    • provide data and communications that elevate the network value of secondary distribution substations.

    • deliver high quality power to consumers.
