A Kardashev Scale Perspective

Technological and Energy Development in Relation to Economic Growth and Capacity

Throughout history, the advancement of civilization can be directly measured by our ability to harness and manage energy. From the fires of the pre-industrial era to today’s interconnected electricity grids, the more energy we can use, the more prosperous our societies have become.

The Kardashev Scale ranks hypothetical civilizations on how much energy they can harness:

Type I civilization: Uses all the energy available on its planet.

Type II civilization: Uses all the energy of its star.

Type III civilization: Uses all the energy of its galaxy.

At present, humanity is at Kardashev level 0.73, still well below a true Type I civilization, which would fully utilize all of the energy available on Earth.

Our latest whitepaper examines humanity’s energy journey, tracing historical growth, analyzing current trends, and highlighting the transformative innovations required for continued progress along the Kardashev trajectory.
