The Hidden Cost of Balancing in Poland
This year at EuroPOWER & OZE POWER, ENODA, will present our whitepaper, ‘The Hidden Cost of Balancing in Poland’.
This report examines Poland’s electricity market structure, focusing on wholesale generation, carbon emissions, and the balancing market. The analysis highlights the composition of Poland’s balancing market and its associated emissions.
Given the experiences of other European countries, rising renewable penetration could lead to increased balancing interventions.
To mitigate potential cost escalations and emissions, investments in energy storage, demand-side management, and improved forecasting will be necessary. Addressing these challenges through proactive policy measures and infrastructure development will be essential for ensuring a stable, cost-effective, and low-carbon electricity system.
By examining economic and environmental costs across both markets, this study provides a more holistic understanding of Poland’s electricity sector and the systemic challenges that must be addressed to achieve true decarbonisation.
